Vas: Greg Ellis and Azam Ali. Ellis plays udu, tabla, dubbek, nagara, riqq, frame drum, bells, gongs, zils, rombak, shakers, and voice. Ali brings voice, hammered dulcimer, psaltery, tanpura, and the frame drum. Offerings, featuring a few guest artists, is their second CD, and some may say it is stronger than their first. They use no MIDI or sequencing in the creation of this Middle Eastern-flavored soundscape. Ellis’ percussion carries the sound while Ali’s Farsi vocals create vast atmospheres, flowing deeply into listeners ears. Ellis arranged and mixed the sounds perfectly, no gaps or missing pieces. The ethnic acoustics are full and lush, essential world music.
